A lost property box, crafted by prisoners developing woodworking skills in the Creative Learning In Prison woodwork unit, has been placed outside the café at La Vallette. The initiative was inspired by prison governor John De Carteret, who noticed numerous Facebook posts about people leaving items behind at the beach.
"I've got two others that we made slightly differently that are looking for a home, so if somebody's interested in one of them, get in contact with the prison, and we'll come and deliver it," he said."This one is for lost property, but we made all of the children's toyboxes at the top of the slipways a couple of years back. I saw on Facebook that people are always leaving things behind on the beaches, and so we could make a few lost property boxes for the community and give them a nautical theme. The bathing pools have this one, but there's another two ready to go which are equally as fabulous."
